Obituary for Eleanor Evangeline Chow

April 28, 1922 – April 1, 2021

Wonderful Mother Poem by Patrick O'Reilly

Eleanor Evangeline Chow passed away peacefully on April 1st, 2021, one month before her 99th birthday. Eleanor was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, and as a young child moved to Victoria, BC, where she spent her formative years. As the eldest of 11 siblings, from a young age, she helped support her family. Eleanor was independent and moved to Toronto to work for a brief period, but returned to Victoria to assist her mother in the family seamstress shop. In her youth and as a young adult, she was active in church groups and travelled several times to youth camps in the United States.

In 1954, Eleanor married Wayne Oh Chow and moved to Prince George, where Wayne owned and operated the Shasta Café with his brother, Henry. Eleanor and Wayne raised their four children in Prince George. Eleanor made many life-long friends in Prince George. She was a devoted mother and was very proud of her family.

After Wayne’s passing in 2004, Eleanor moved to Vancouver to be closer to her children and their families, and siblings in Vancouver, Campbell River and Victoria. She very much enjoyed all the visitors she received in Vancouver.

Eleanor loved to cook, enjoyed reading and travelling.  She also enjoyed playing bridge, playing with friends and family, in local community clubs, online and occasionally travelling to tournaments. But, more than anything, Eleanor loved spending time with family and friends.

Eleanor was blessed with a long and wonderful life and was an amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.  Always positive, caring and loving, Eleanor will be greatly missed by all that came to know her.

She was predeceased by her husband Wayne, daughter Darlene (Henry Ngo), brothers Art, Albert and Alfred.  Eleanor will be greatly missed by her surviving children: Marlene (Rod), Brian (Kim) and Bruce (Mandy); grandchildren: Travis (Chantelle), Kevin (Lyndsay), Keenan, Jade, Bailey and Benjamin; and, great-grandchildren: Elara and Elyse; surviving brothers and sisters: Eugenie, Arnold, Elouise, Allan, Enid, Elaine, and Elena; cousins and many friends.

An online Celebration of Life for Eleanor will be held on April 28th, 2021. Details will be forwarded to family and friends.
